ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - PLANNING FOR TOMORROW
The article describes Orlando International Airport's $700 million expansion program which will not only double its gate capacity and add a fourth runway, but could also provide a terminal for an intrastate high-speed rail service to the tourist areas of Orlando, and port-to-port service to the cruise industry at Canaveral, 40 miles to the east. Details of the expansion program including airport improvements and addition of parking garages are summarized. Plans for the multimodal transportation interface are also discussed. The airport's 13.5-mile Maglev demonstration project with its 300 mph magnetically levitated system is also noted.
