DON'T "KEEP ON TRUCKIN'"

Long distance trucking of solid wastes to landfills in the interior of the United States places the general public at far greater risk than does a nearby modern municipal incinerator. Accident statistics show that 12 citizens per year on the average are dying in the process of transporting the seven million tons of New Jersey trash annually shipped to landfills in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana. Also, trucking is far worse than incineration with regard to air pollution. Adequate facilities for trash disposal within the state of New Jersey would cause no increase in deaths each year, or perhaps at most one or two additional cancers (not necessarily fatal ones) per decade.
