PARAMETER ESTIMATION OF THE SIMULTANEOUS TRANSPORT DEMAND MODEL
HET SCHATTEN VAN COEFFICIENTEN IN HET SIMULTANE VERKEERSMODEL
The parameters of the trip distribution and modal split functions of the transport demand model are often estimated independently. There are a number of theoretical and practical objections to this practice. The most important practical drawback concerns the travel impedance: this explanatory variable cannot be estimated accurately enough. In some cases this drawback is also pertinent to conditional probability models. In order to eliminate these objections the simultaneous estimation model has been developed. With this model the parameters of the simultaneous transport demand model are estimated. The estimation model is derived from Fisher's likelihood estimation model which is based on probability theory. Parameter estimation requires availablaity of o-d trip matrices by mode and o-d impedance matrices by mode. In principle it is possible to treat excess and egress travel impedances as separate explanatory variables. The covering abstract for the conference is IRRD no. 213390. /TRRL/
