NAS RECOMMENDS INCREASED TRUCK WEIGHTS
In a recent report to the Congress, a committee of the National Academy of Sciences, recommended that vehicles weighing more than the current 80,000 pound limit be allowed to operate on interstate highways subject to certain restrictions. Although the Committee stated that it is not advocating heavier trucks, it does feel that states should have the option of implementing permit programs which would alllow the heavier trucks to operate in certain areas within their individual state.
