SCHEDULING A $3.5M/MONTH JOB
A detailed 3200-step, 40-month work plan developed before starting the job provides the overall framework for success, but much narrower 8-week summaries of current and pending tasks provide the day-to-day guidance. Harbert/Westbrook, a joint venture of Harbert International Inc., Birmingham, Alabama, and Westbrook Construction Inc., Denver, Colorado, won the $120 million contract to construct the I-95/I-595 interchange in Fort Lauderdale when the Florida Department of Transportation opened bids in mid-1987. The joint venture has now met three critical benchmarks, has earned a $600,000 incentive bonus for early opening of the job to I-595 traffic, and expects to open all remaining work to traffic this summer about four months ahead of the specified November 1990 completion date. This article provides further details on the nine-stage construction project.
