EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION FOR LOGISTICS EXECUTIVES: A HEADHUNTER PERSPECTIVE
Executive search firms (headhunters) were surveyed to learn about the importance of both general educational knowledge and specific logistics knowledge for senior-level logistics managers. Overall the results confirm the assertion that these executives should be management generalists as well as specialists. According to the headhunters, the three most important general fields of knowledge are transportation/logistics, general business and business ethics. With respect to specific areas of logistics knowledge, respondents indicated that top-level logistics managers should be well-versed in traffic management, customer service and warehousing management. An unexpected and rather surprising finding is that knowledge of international business/logistics is viewed as relatively unimportant for senior-level logisticians.
