REPORTING IN MASS MEDIA ON ALCOHOL AND TRAFFIC. REPORT I

BERICHTGEVING IN DE MEDIA OVER ALCOHOL EN VERKEER. DEELRAPPORT I

It was expected that during 1988 much attention would be paid in the Dutch mass media to drunken driving. During 1987 a new policy for traffic safety was introduced in the multi year plan for traffic safety with the aim to decrease the number of traffic fatalities by 25%. Another aspect was the introduction of the breath test as legal proof of blood alcohol content. One of the spearheads of this plan was the battle against drunken driving. In this report an evaluation is presented of the effects of the publicity given in the newspapers, journals, radio and television.
