CRITICAL PATHS: DESIGNING FOR SECURE TRAVEL

There is a widespread public fear of assault, mugging and harassment when travelling. Pedestrian subways, dark alleyways, isolated bus stops, deserted railway stations amd multi-storey car parks all generate a high level of apprehension in the user. This book clearly sets out the general principles by which the environmental design, the operation and the management of transport systems can significantly reduce both the opportunities for crime and the fear of crime. It will assist designers, planners, transport operators, local authorities and others concerned with the provision of transport facilities, to provide a safer travel environment.
