This report discusses the group of young drivers from 18-24 years old whose lack of driving experience plays an important role in their accident proneness. Another particular aspect for this group are the psychological, physical, and social changes which correspond to their age. During these years there are many changes in the lives of such young people, with a total different development between men and women. After an introduction, the following aspects are discussed: demographical characteristics and social activities; driving licence and vehicle ownership; journeys; accident data in perspective; traffic risk of young car drivers; traffic behaviour in theory; data from practice regarding traffic behaviour; crash and post-crash aspects; problem analysis of young drivers; and possible countermeasures.
