PROBLEM SITUATIONS ON MAIN ROADS INSIDE BUILT-UP AREAS: FIRST PHASE, EXPLORATION

PROBLEEMSITUATIES OP VERKEERSADERS IN DE BEBOUWDE KOM: EERSTE FASE, VERKENNING

The design and results of the first phase of research on 'problem situations' are presented in the report. The first phase consisted of 3 parts: a literature study, an inventory, and an analysis. The research was meant to indicate points of action for measures improving traffic safety on 'main roads inside built-up areas'. The main 'problem situations' were found to be: (a) sections of roads with only one lane and (with or without) bicycle tracks, having the highest number of accidents; (b) roads with two lanes and bicycle tracks; (c) sections of highways where parking provisions have been built. The program for the second phase of the research will be based on the results of the report.
