DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS

MOTORVOERTUIGVERLICHTING OVERDAG

Daytime running lights and their effect on traffic safety were studied in a literature review in 1985. This research led to a further study of the use of dipped headlights. The main conclusion was that the introduction of daytime dipped headlight use in the Netherlands should reduce the number of traffic accident victims in such a way that the reduction is bigger than the costs. After many discussions on further research, and on the results obtained in other countries, the use of daytime running lights is now strongly recommended. It is emphasized that a daytime light on the rear end of the vehicle is also desirable.
