CAR USE: A SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC STUDY

Part one provides a summary of the activity, travel and car use patterns among households of different types. Part two contains four chapters. The descriptions are provided of how cars are used for each of four main categories of activity: work, education, shopping and "free time" activities. In Part three the authors discuss three major themes of special concern for policy and forecasting. The first concerns perception of motoring costs. The second company-financing, and the third car ownership-and use decisions with special reference to the "second car". Part four provides a summary of the main findings, and conclusions. Part five contains the in-depth interviewing approach and methodology, description of pilot and main survey and a brief appraisal of approach and methods.
