IACP TRAFFIC DATA REPORT

This report is a prototype created to satisfy the following objectives: (1) Fill the need for a single national level comprehensive source of police traffic services management information; (2) Allow state and local law enforcement agencies an improved ability to compare their performance levels with those of agencies of similar size or jurisdictional demographic composition; and (3) Allow state and local law enforcement an enhanced capability of reviewing aggregate traffic experience data for evaluating current police traffic service programs and planning future police traffic service programs. The data come from 77 contributing state, municipal and county police departments and highway patrols. The report is divided into two sections, with state agency data being separated from municipal and county data. 76 different data elements, reflecting primarily accident and enforcement action data from these agencies are arranged in 15 separate tables for each section. The information is extremely comprehensive. Basic data (number of vehicle accidents, fatal accidents, injury accidents) and more specific data (pedestrian/pedalcycle accidents, fatalities, number of drunk driving arrests - to name but a few) are recorded where available.
