REPEATABILITY OF SPRAY TUNNEL MEASUREMENTS. FINAL REPORT
This study was undertaken to upgrade an existing spray tunnel to make it useful as a tool for verifying compliance with performance standards for spray suppressing flaps for heavy trucks. The tunnel was previously developed as a research tool for evaluating the basic spray suppressing qualities of flaps. The upgrading was necessary to eliminate measurement variabilities associated with instrumenation, test procedures, and environmental changes. This study also documents the results of tests comparing measurements made in the modified tunnel with those obtained in a splash and spray test apparatus designed to meet British Standard, BS AU 200: Part 2: 1984. Engineering drawings for the modified tunnel, as well as detailed, step-by-step, procedures for testing flaps in a manner that will ensure repeatable results are presented.
