DE KOSTEN VAN FILES OP HET NEDERLANDSE HOOFDWEGENNET IN 1986 EN 1987

This manuscript discussed the 1986 and 1987 costs of traffic jams on the main road network in the Netherlands. Data collected by the Algemene Verkeersdienst Rijkspolitie (AVD) in Driebergen (the Netherlands), was used. All calculations were based on different value of time scenarios and showed driver and passenger costs to be the largest in comparison to other variables. The costs involved (jams only) were approximately df320 million in 1986 and about df330 million in 1987. When situations tending towards a jam were taken into account as well, an estimate of df775 million in 1986 and df790 million in 1987 was obtained. (Author/TRRL)
