The Dutch government aims at reducing car use in a selective way, i.e. Without preventing income generating traffic like business travel. Therefore a better understanding is needed of this type of traffic mobility. This paper summarises the main results of a literature survey on business travel. Economic impact, current definitions, typical characteristics, causes, and expected trends are successively dealt with. The paper concludes with some policy recommendations and recommendations to improve current measurement procedures, and presents some ideas for future research. (Author/TRRL)
