SOIL-STRUCTURE INTERACTION RELATED TO ACTUAL CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCES. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3
This paper analyses the behaviour of soil-structure systems under construction. The technique used is a finite element program capable of analysing the soil-water coupling boundary problems based on the constitutive model consisting of a cam-clay type of elasto-plastic model and a rate dependent viscous model. After a brief introduction to the constitutive model and the finite element technique, the determination procedure for the input determination is described. Back analyses of a trial embankment on soft ground (fine sand and silty clay) and an excavation in soft subsoil are conducted and the results compared with those obtained by in-situ monitoring. The influence of the construction sequence upon the mechanical state of the subsoil connected with the behaviour of the structure under construction is also demonstrated using an imaginary construction of a building, a tunnel excavation and the excavation of a pit using a diaphragm wall.
