BACK ANALYSIS METHOD OF ELASTOPLASTIC BEM IN STRAIN SPACE. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3
This paper describes the back analysis of the elastoplastic bem (boundary element method) on the basis of the plastic theory in strain space. The method can be applied to the back analysis of an underground cavity. The initial stresses in rock mass and Young's modulus can be calculated from the displacements measured along the side of cavity. In this paper, the approximate middle-point stiffness method is proposed to solve non-linear equations. Convergence can be obtained more quickly with this method than with others. (TRRL)
