APPLICATIONS OF THE COMMON BOUNDARY ELEMENT SOFTWARE COMVAR TO THE ANALYSIS OF SOILS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

This article describes the application of the common boundary element software comvar to soil analysis. In this application, the soil is assumed to be a semi infinite plate made of anisotropic materials, having its upper boundary described by the surface of the ground and extending to infinity in other directions. For the elastic analysis of anisotropic plates a new displacement function has been developed in function of the location independent variable rather than material characteristic related independent variable. The stress and displacement boundary conditions of the plates as well as the displacements, stresses and strains at any arbitrary point of the plate can be easily evaluated through the displacement function without requiring any additional transformation. The new displacement function is introduced into the software comvar for the common boundary element method. (TRRL)
