APPLICATIONS OF THE BOUNDARY ELEMENT METHOD FOR THE ANALYSIS OF DISCONTINUITIES. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

A direct boundary element formulation to model discontinuities is proposed. The solution technique follows previous schemes developed to model other nonlinear behaviours. The quadrupole effects are now considered to remove stresses along discontinuities. The applicability of the numerical algorithm developed is demonstrated by practical engineering analyses.
