FINITE DIFFERENCE ANALYSIS OF CONSOLIDATION BY VERTICAL DRAINS WITH WELL RESISTANCE. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

A finite difference method which includes consideration of well resistance is presented for consolidation of multilayered anisotropic ground by vertical drains. A new procedure is then outlined for drawing the consolidation curve of multilayered ground using Hansbo's equation concerning single-layered centripetal consolidation. The validity of the numerical analysis is verified through a pair of in-situ experiments. Furthermore, the experimental results also reveal that the proposed procedure yields a sufficiently accurate consolidation curve for any multilayered ground without the need for a computer.
