A COMPLETE CONSTITUTIVE LAW FOR SOIL STRUCTURE INTERFACES. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON NUMERICAL METHODS IN GEOMECHANICS, 11-15 APRIL 1988, INNSBRUCK, AUSTRIA. VOLUMES 1 - 3

The bases of the formulation of directionaly-dependent three-dimensional interface law, including possible changes in the direction of loading and the effect of progressive grain crushing on large relative tangential displacements, are presented and discussed. Direct shear tests at constant normal stress and at constant volume were used as identifying tests. Numerical simulations of direct shear paths at imposed normal stiffness are carried out and compared to corresponding tests. Practical applications of this model are numerous in civil engineering: estimation of the capacity of piles and anchorings, reinforcement of soft material embankments or rock faces using "nails", drilling and driving problems.
