In this paper the vehicle routing and scheduling problem as found in the newspaper industry is addressed. The authors' experience in designing delivery truck routes for the distribution of morning newspapers at three different newspaper companies in different cities of Australia is summarized. The intention is to convey some of the unique features of routing and scheduling in the newspaper industry as well as to discuss more general aspects of route design and maintenance. (TRRL)
