ROLLER COMPACTED CONCRETE TRIAL PAVEMENT, TEA TREE ROAD, TASMANIA. INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON ROLLER COMPACTED CONCRETE PAVEMENTS, MELBOURNE, 8 SEPTEMBER 1988, PROCEEDINGS

Over 60,000 sq m of high strength roller compacted concrete (rcc) pavement has been completed in tasmania since December 1986. Projects have ranged from footpaths and small industrial hardstands to mine haul roads. One of the most significant and best documented is the overlay of a section of tea tree road near hobart, designed as a joint venture between specialist contractors avoca transport company and the tasmanian department of main roads. The trial section featured a crushed basalt aggregate and included a proportion of condensed silica fume (csf) in addition to cement. The pavement design, rcc mix design, construction details, quality control testing, pavement performance and costing are discussed. (Author/TRRL)
