SCHEURREMMENDE LAGEN IN ASFALTKONSTRUKTIES

This paper deals with the phenomenon of reflective cracking when applying an asphalt concrete overlay to a cracked pavement. A description of the mechanism is used as the basis for a study on how to prevent this phenomenon. Two models are described which leads to two different solutions. The first solution produces a mechanical uncoupling of both the asphaltic layers. This can be done by applying a sami (stress absorbing membrane interlayer). The second solution aims at strengthening the overlay be means of an intermediate reinforcing of great stiffness. The advantages and disadvantages of both methods are mentioned. (TRRL)
