VEHICLE REGISTRATION INFORMATION SYSTEM

The development is described of a Vehicle Registration Information System by Utrecht, Netherlands traffic researchers, which can meet the demands of short delivery periods and shrinking budgets. All stages of the system are carried out in the field as much as possible. It is based on a large number of recording units in the street and a microcomputer in the office. The recording unts were designed especially for recording vehicle registrations in the broadest sense. The units can be used for parking surveys or surveys of places of departure and arrival; they can also be applied for visual traffic census. The system can be used by the parking police to write parking tickets ready for computer processing. The details of the equipment are described, as well as its applications.
