HUMAN FACTORS IN THE DESIGN AND ASSESSMENT OF IN-VEHICLE INFORMATION SYSTEMS
The driver of a modern vehicle can now be informed about the state of the vehicle and its components, about traffic conditions, and about the environment in which the vehicle is being used, and can receive information unrelated to the vehicle but of relevance to the driver. Information that can be made available to the driver is listed, and the role of human factors is discussed. It is noted that the ergonomist can, in the course of the design process, assist with the optimization of the applications from the point of view of the user. It is necessary that the ergonomist be consulted early in the design process.
