RECENT INNOVATIONS IN CONTRACT MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS PRIVATIZATION. HIGHWAY SUBCOMMITTEE ON MAINTENANCE OF THE STANDING COMMITTEE ON HIGHWAYS
As maintenance costs have escalated and the ability to maintain specialized personnel decreased, highway maintenance has had to change from dedicated small work crews to contracting out. Instances when contracting out will better serve maintenance needs are listed as well as the types of contracting which have been tried and found to be cost effective and practical. A comprehensive study on contracting will be coducted by a consultant under NCHRP Project 14-9(3) of the Transportation Research Board.
