"IT'S NOT MY FAULT"

The article discusses how the variable requirements of the driving task at unpredictable times may overload the capabilities of the driver. It is described how the driver may become overloaded, and how when demands presented by the driving situation exceed the driver's capabilities, there will be an accident. It is shown also, how the driving process is an integration of the driver, vehicle, and road with other drivers, and a failure in any part of this 'system' could result in an accident. Driver perception and perceptual interference such as sensory impairment is also discussed.
