A MECHANISTIC PROCEDURE FOR THE STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF ASPHALTIC OVERLAYS
This note summarises a presentation given by the author in the ARRB series of Research Seminars. The presentation discusses work underway at ARRB to develop a design procedure for pavement overlays which incorporates mechanistic analysis of the pavement. The aspects covered are as follows: (1) current overlay design procedures; (2) limitations of current procedures; (3) mechanistic procedure applied to design of overlays; (4) advantages of the mechanistic procedure; (5) adapting the mechanistic procedure to design of overlays; (6) current status; and (7) future program.
