The ninth line of Mexico City's metro network which is scheduled to open in 1991 will use steel wheels and overhead catenary as opposed to rubber-tyred cars and third rail. Changes implemented to current metro operations such as electronic ticketing, passenger communications systems, cultural activities which are aimed to improve the metro's public image, video cameas to monitor stations, and fare increases in recent years which will change it from a heavily subsidized system to one wherein farebox revenues will cover a large percentage of costs are discussed.
