L.A. LIGHT RAIL OPENING IS JUST THE BEGINNING
Rail will return to Los Angeles with the opening of the 22-mile light rail Blue Line on July 16. This will mark the first leg of a planned 150-mile, multi-billion dollar system to help alleviate some of the congestion and mobility problems of the area. Final completion date for the project is the year 2020 with light rail, automated light rail, heavy-rail subways, commuter rail, and an as yet to be determined system being offered. A brief history of the first rail service in Los Angeles as well as a detailed look at the Blue Line, its trains and obstacles which must still be overcome with regards to rights-of-way are given.
