IOWA'S STATEWIDE TRAFFIC SIGNAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
Oil overcharge funds have been used to improve signal equipment and signal timing improvements, as well as provide professional training programs for traffic signal operations in Iowa. Iowa's activities also included a program to publicize the program, and its public awareness campaign was a unique and distinctive feature of the program. The details are summarized of the program which also included the assistance of a traffic engineering consultant to select and evaluate the projects, and a technology transfer program for technical staff and for local and state decision makers. Details of project funding, fund distribution, and the overall evaluation are also described.
