CULTIVATING THE GRASSROOTS
Techniques that help in selling the public on programs of the Illinois Department of Transportation are described. IDOT enlisted the aid of a nationwide business communication consulting firm to accomplish its goals: conter negative rapport; develop a professional style; establish conversation rather than confrontation; move the meeting to a conclusion where everyone comes out a winner. An 'open house' atmosphere, the importance of eye contact even in large meetings, and the avoidance of technical terms are all discussed.
