It is noted that Community Traffic Ssafety Programs (CTSP) have become critical as resources are becoming scarce and traffic safety is being recognized as a significant public health issue. A CTST is one that operates at the local level and relies on a public-private partnership to take a coordinated, multi-agency approach to a community's traffic safety problems. A number of CTSPs are thriving in Allentown, Pennsylvania; Clearwater, Florida; Huntsville, Alabama; Irvine, California; New York City; San Antonio, Texas; Suffolk County, New York; Roanoke, Virginia; Hamilton County, Indiana; Butte County, California; Stillwater, Oklahoma; Missoula, Montana; and Kent, Washington. Detailed descriptions are given of the CTSP efforts in Roanoke County and Stillwater.
