THE UNIVERSITY'S ROLE IN PAVEMENT RESEARCH IMPLEMENTATION
This article presents the comments of a speaker at the Sixth International Conference on Structural Design of Asphalt Pavements in Ann Arbor in July 1987. He states that successful pavement research implementation requires a cooperative effort among researchers and practitioners. He examines the typical university research organizational structure and funding sources of a typical university transportation research program, and discusses the general requirements of the research-implementor, along with the need to establish a reward system for researchers and practitioners.
