C&NW UPGRADES DISPATCHING
Discussed is how Chicago and North Western's new $5 million Transportation Center will gain a more efficient operation, increase train capacity and promote safe operations by consolidating dispatching and upgrading its equipment. Using the dispatching system called Harmon's Total Traffic Management (TTM) system, C&NW hopes to control 200 freight and some 75 commuter trains daily. The system will advise dispatchers of potential delays based on train speeds, alert relieving dispatchers of messages which must be acknowledged by the dispatcher before he can issue any instructions, is flexible enough so that territories can be split among different desks if necessary, and is expandable. Once the entire system is operational, it will generate electronic train sheets and time reports.
