SHEAR-LAG ANALYSIS OF T-, I-, AND BOX BEAMS
Based on some rational assumptions for the behavior of the web of the beam, this paper presents a harmonic shear-lag analysis for the stresses in the flanges that is convenient for a wide range of problems. The paper focuses on the shear-lag analysis for simple and continuous T-, I- and box beams such as found in prestressed concrete bridges subjected to both transverse and longitudinal loads. The convergence of the solution for peak stresses in the flanges is studied in detail. A general procedure for determining the stress resultants in a continuous beam, considering the shear-lag effect is also presented. Typical examples calculated by the computer program, SHLAG, are given to show the accuracy and applicability of the method. The results are compared with known results from other solutions.
