BUCKLING OF RECTANGULAR PLATES WITH TAPERED THICKNESS
This paper describes the elastic buckling of uniaxially compressed rectangular plates whose compressed edges are simply supported and the unloaded edges have arbitrary boundary condtions such as simply supported, clamped or free. The plate is linearly tapered in the direction parallel to the compressed edges. A power series method using a coordinate transformation has been developed to analytically solve the governing differential equation with variable coefficients. The influences of thicknesses variation, plate aspect ratios, and boundary conditions on the buckling load are examined.
