SPECIAL REPORT: GEOSYNTHETICS IN THE 1990S
As the geosynthetics industry enters the 1990s, it faces numerous ciritcal issues ranging from product credibility to the education of engineers about the proper use of geosynthetics, and from survivability to liability. The expansion of the industry will depend on how succesfully it addresses these critical issues. This article discusses these issues with emphasis on the education of engineers on the use of the material, and environmental projects that will account for the largest growth of geosynthetics use. New technology, and the innovative geosynthetics designed for specific functions are discussed, as well as marketplace stability.
