RELIABILITY ANALYSIS OF PARTIALLY RESTRAINED STEEL CONNECTIONS
Research is reported in which existing experimental moment-rotation curves for partially restrained steel connections were used to obtain a statistical data base of the moment-rotation behavior of 6 common connections. The statistical distributions and correlation coefficient matrice of parameters governing the connection behavior were computed, therefore allowing one to model the system. A method for computing the reliability index for a beam with a partially restrained connection was developed. The method was used with an iterative procedure of setting the end rotation at various values. The application of the procedure to two beams is described: one beam had a connection that is typically considered to be a fixed connection and the other beam had a connection that is typically considered to be a simple connection. The details of the study are described, and the results are discussed.
