ANALYSIS OF PILE GROUPS WITH VARIABLE SHAFT-LOAD OVER POINT-LOAD RATIOS
This note proposes an alternative method of pile-group analysis that takes into account the observed nonlinear nature of point loads and shaft loads throughout loading. Basic assumptions are described, and a set of nonlinear equations is developed that can be solved for the point loads and shaft loads of each pile in the group, as well as the group settlement. An example is provided that serves as a quantitative measure of how the present analysis may differ from the two mentioned previously (elastic method, Poulos, 1968; and Clemente and Polo, 1988).
