ADVANCED FABRICATION AND ERECTION TECHNIQUES FOR LONG SUSPENSION BRIDGE CABLES
Six long suspension bridges connecting Honshu with Shikoku in Japan have been built incorporting the parallel wire strand (PWS) method for the bridge cables. The advanced air spinning (AS) technique has been used for the Shimotsui Seto Bridge. The fabrication and erection of the PWS is presented and the quality of the cable is discussed. A unique AS method was developed from wind resistance and periodical improvement. The quality control system used in this process is also presented. Various aspects of the fabrication and erection of the prefabricated methods are presented and discussed.
