THE UNLEADED PETROL SAGA

The history of the development and use of unleaded petrol is examined. Included in the discussion is an explanation of how lead came to be used in petrol, what its impact on the environment has been, and what its removal from petrol has meant in terms of engineering. Attention is focused on unleaded petrol quality in terms of octane number, engine performance, and catalytic converters.
