SULFATE DURABILITY OF CONCRETES UNDER CONSTANT SUSTAINED LOAD

This paper deals with studies of durability of concretes with limestone and granite aggregate under simultaneous long-term compressive stress and sulfate attack. Durability of concretes was assessed by means of creep and creep recovery, compressive strength measurements and analysis of phase content in cement paste. Results of the studies indicate a significant effect of stress level, kind of aggregate as well as interaction of both factors on concrete performance in sulfate solution. The occurrence of physico-mechanical changes due to the magnitude of stress and chemical changes connected with the kind of aggregate affect the rate of sulfate corrosion. (Author/TRRL)
