N2O-EMISSION FROM MOTOR VEHICLES
N2O-EMISSION FRAAN MOTORFORDON
In this investigation the emissions of N2O from two petrol-powered passenger cars (one carburettor and one catalyst car), one diesel-powered passenger and one diesel-engine designed for a truck have been studied. The passenger cars were driven on a chassis dynamometer, while the truck-engine was tested in a test rig. The results show a large distribution in the N2O-emission, both between different vehicles -from 0.01 g/km to 0.6 g/km -and for the same vehicle. The catalyst car tends to give somewhat higher concentrations than other passenger cars. Since the truck-engine was tested in a different way, with emissions given in g/kwh, it is not possible to make a direct comparison. With an assumed relation between engine effect and road distance the concentrations have been recalculated, and were of the same magnitude as for the catalyst passenger car. (TRRL)
