EFFECTS OF BENZO(A)PYRENE, AN AIR CARCINOGENIC POLLUTANT IN URBAN ENVIRONMENT, UPON CELL VIABILITY IN LUNG, LIVER AND HEART

UCINCI BENZO(A)PIRENA, KARCINOGENOG POLUTANTA U ZRAKU URBANIH SREDINA, NA STANICNI INTEGRITET U PLUCIMA, JETRI I SRCU

The article presents the findings of previous studies, according to which alternate lysosomal membranes appear to be responsible for bp-initiated injuries to the lung, liver and heart. The increasing environmental contamination by bp has resulted in research on various physiological aspects but not hitherto upon lysosomal system. Therefore, the present and previous results may be interesting in the light of epidemiological evidence that bp from car exhaust fumes and cigarette smoke is a significant risk factor contributing to diseases of the lung, liver, heart and possibly other organs.
