PROPOSED DESIGN PROVISIONS FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE COLUMNS

The following report comprises the proposals of the subcommittee on reinforced concrete columns of the saice structural division's concrete committee. The report is subdivided into two sections: the proposed column specifications and, thereafter, the explanatory notes, elaborating on the various clauses of the specifications. The structure of the proposed column specifications is roughly based on the latest British concrete code, but North American design specifications and local research findings have been incorporated where necessary. As is the practice in modern design specifications, a list of relevant symbols precedes the design clauses. The design clauses could readily be incorporated into future overall code revisions. The instances where these proposed specifications deviate from existing local column practice are listed. (TRRL)
