SAFETY IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF THE PUBLIC
The keynote addresses and sesssion topics of the National Safety Council's 77th annual Congress and Exposition are reported in this article. The Council president, Gilchrest encouraged safety and health professionals to make safety competitive in the 1990s when it will have to compete with other issues for management attention. Another keynote speaker emphasized the need to strike a balance between acceptable risks, costs and benefits. The Labor Secretary Dole provided an update of the Department's activities. The head of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration noted issues high on the OSHA agenda. The Transportation Secretary Skinner outlined the Department's goals.
