PLANNING FOR URBAN EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
The purpose of the paper is to describe a recent comprehensive analysis of emergency transportation, communication, and treatment services in Philadelphia. The paper describes the rise in emergency service use and some proposals intended to deal with the problems generated. It discusses the specific origins of the emergency medical service crisis in Philadelphia, the formation of a task force to deal with it, the studies carried out, and the specific recommendations of the task force.
